Ian is a graduate of the University of Florida College of Law, has a Masters Degree in Public Administration from Florida State University, a Bachelors in Criminal Justice from Florida A&M University and an Associates degree from Miami Dade College.
Ian served as an Assistant Public Defender for five years and was the first African American in the history of the Second Judicial Circuit to be named Felony Division Chief. He also served at the Chief of the Traffic Division. During his tenure with the state Ian handled thousands of cases ranging from traffic offenses and DUI's to felonies punishable by life in prison. He is passionate about defending his client’s rights as well as sharing his knowledge and talents with the next generation.
Ian teaches American Criminal Law at Florida A&M University and also serves on the board of directors of "Turn About" a local substance abuse and counseling program for young people. Ian is also actively involved with volunteer legal activities; he is a chapter representative for the Tallahassee chapter of Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and also serves on the statewide board of directors. In addition, he is a member of the Florida Bar's Grievance Committee.
